Tai Chi on the Lawn, Wesley Acres, June 27

I had the pleasure of leading Tai Chi on the Lawn at Wesley Acres Healthy Living Community, 3520 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA.

We’d had rain every day in the week leading up to our Saturday morning event.  Bright, crisp and clear, the day turned out perfect.  Thirty-two participants came together to practice and learn more about Tai Chi and Qigong.

We started out with Qigong warm-up and then moved in to Tai Chi for Balance Part One.  Most were surprised at how invigorating the slow, deliberate movements could be and how most everyone, regardless of their physical capabilities could follow along.

As we practiced, I was able to describe the various physical benefits of tai chi, from improving balance and attention span to boosting the immune system to beating back the symptoms of arthritis, asthma and insomnia.  I also invited those interested to join our Wesley Tai Chi classes beginning in the Fall.  The first class is Thursday, September 4 at 1:00 p.m.  Cost for an eight week session is $25 for Wesley residents and $30 for non-residents.

This Saturday, you can join Qigong on the Lawn, presented by Kevin Thorn.  From 9 to 10, the meeting is free and will be held on the front lawn.
